WILDERNESS SURVIVAL

Let's say your hiking in the mountains and somehow you lose track of yourself. You're off the trail and don't know how to get back. You're scared and don't know what to do.


Here are a few tips on what to do in the wilderness:


  1. The stress of being stuck in survival mode. There are many factors that contribute to these stressors including injury, illness, death, uncertainty, lack of control, environment, hunger & thirst, fatigue, and isolation. To combat these stressors one must know yourself and anticipate fears. Being realistic and adopting a positive attitude and training yourself to deal with this stressful situation.

  2. REMEMBER WHAT SURVIVAL STANDS FOR:

3. Have a survival kit with you especially if you are doing something that can put you in this type of situation. A survival kit includes items like:

a. first aid

b. water

c. fire starting equipment

d. signaling items

e. food items

f. shelter items


Also knowing your area well enough to survive. This includes plants, water nearby and animals local to the area. All of these things will help you survive in the wilderness.
